All About Quinoa: Quinoa Recipes

Want to start eating more quinoa but aren’t sure how to prepare it? Don’t fret! This grain is easy as pie to make. In fact, if you have a rice cooker you can use that tool to take any guesswork out of preparing your quinoa.

To make basic quinoa, start by rinsing the grain and letting it drain, then combine two cups of water for every cup of quinoa in your pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover the pot and simmer for 12-15 minutes until all of the water is absorbed. Remove from the heat and let the quinoa stand for another five minutes before serving.

Of course, if you’re going to really up the ante, you want to go beyond basics. Here are some super yummy quinoa recipes.

5. Avocado Quinoa – This quickie dish is packed with veggies for even more nutritional oomph.

Did you know that there is another type of quinoa? It is a red quinoa and used the same way.

For years I eat quiona, corn itself and the produced spaghetti and other noodle types. It is very healthy and a good substitute for gluten products. Quinoa is helpfull in diabetes (low glucaemic value) as well as for patients with allergies. I belong to both groups and am very thankful to mother nature that this plant is available!

In Peru, while hiking Machu Pichu we had quinoa and potato soup and toasted Quinoa with honey for dessert. Both were so yummy and gave us energy.
