Ten of the World’s Strangest Fruits (slideshow)

By Eva Valenti, DivineCaroline

Bored of bananas? Apples giving you apathy? Over oranges? If you’re trying to expand your fruit horizons, traveling the world, or just searching for a cool-looking edible centerpiece, look for one of these funky fruits in your local grocery store (though you might have a hard time finding them in America).

1. Pitaya (Dragon Fruit)
Known for its unusual color and laxative properties, the dragon fruit grows in Central and South America, as well as some countries in Southeast Asia. Dragon fruits have a bright pink skin and sweet, creamy white flesh full of small black seeds.

Personally I think Durian tastes like a cross between garlic and onion. I think mainly due to its odor combined with taste. I don't like it. Miracle Berries are interesting. They do in fact make sour taste sweet! Friends and I got them and gave it a try. I was amazed! I never tried cherimoya. I will have to look for that one. It's worth a one-time tasting!

Great introduction to these strange fruits. The only one of them I have eaten is physalis and I love it.
