10 Simple Steps to Happiness

Found on a British site devoted to a sustainable future.

When we came across these ten steps to a happier life, we couldn’t wait to share their profound simplicity and wisdom with you: they look to us like the perfect prescription for happiness. Please share your own ideas with us, and spread the word so that we can all begin creating a happier world.

From a BBC documentary that aired in November of 2005.

1. Plant something and nurture it.

2. Count your blessings–at least five–at the end of each day.

3. Take time to talk–have an hour-long conversation with a loved one each week.

4. Phone a friend whom you have not spoken to for a while and arrange to meet up.

5. Give yourself a treat every day and take the time to really enjoy it.

6. Have a good laugh at least once a day.

7. Get physical–exercise for half an hour three times a week.

8. Smile at and/or say hello to a stranger at least once each day.

9. Cut your TV viewing by half. (Some of us have opted to have no television at all!)

10. Spread some kindness–do a good turn for someone every day.

What can you do to create more happiness in your life? Please comment!

I count my blessings instead of sheep and I fall asleep right away. It's amazing how easy it is to come up with lots and lots of blessings if you look at all the tiny things that happen throughout the day.

Elaine Stratt

television really is a life sucking distraction. Some programs are great but half the time aren't you just watching mind numbing junk? I gave up TV. I have no TV at all in my house and my life is so much more peaceful. I get so many important things done that I put off before. I read and have lots of time for more productive hobbies. I advise anyone to give up TV altogether.

Sue Crow

I watched the programme that this list came from.....very interesting that just changing peoples view of their world made so much difference to their wellbeing. It seems obvious but people do get bogged down in their little universe...sometimes a little reminder helps to re-focus.

Desiree Young

Practice unconditional acceptance of others,by refraining from judgment, blame and expectations. The traits you respond to in others, you recognize in yourself.

good stuff!

Lillian Del Toro-politowi

Make someone laugh.

Leslye Goldman

notice something beautiful about a different person each day and remark on it to them with a smile. nice shirt, beautiful eyes, that color looks great on you. Don't forget you need to believe what you are saying.

Ann Rudd

Yes Novellen I agree and must try to give myself a little time in the fresh air each day. Try to help another even just taking in their dry washing now the rain has come, or watching out for their pets when friends are working. Do a good turn definitely no mater what.

Live and Let Live ... Do someone a good turn and don't get found out ....
