Omega-3 fatty acid supplements can benefit all menstruating women, but Neptune krill oil may be the best type for those who also experience PMS. “A recent Canadian study looked at the 11 parameters for premenstrual syndrome,” says Parris Kidd, PhD, a research scientist who specializes in studying and designing nutritional supplements. “Participants either took fish oil or Neptune krill oil. Within two cycles, krill had improved all the parameters; fish oil only helped 5 out of the 11. Based on this strong evidence, I think krill oil is the single best way to manage the physical and emotional symptoms of PMS–it’s what I would tell my sister to take.”

To get the biggest benefit, begin by taking 1 gram a day of krill oil every day for 30 days-throughout an entire menstrual cycle. Then, in subsequent cycles, take the krill oil starting 10 days before your period. “You can even cut the dose for the subsequent cycles in half,” Kidd says. “Just make sure the effect you’re looking for is there before you taper back.”

I'm not sure how I feel about using krill. I like the suggestions of hemp and starflower oil. I use chia seeds in my meals - helps a lot, specially to keep my energy levels steady.

Starflower oil really works best for me.

how about we stop using the lives of others for our own selfish wants? I used to get bad PMS, I switched to a healthier lifestyle, much better.
Gross article.

Hemp oil is the best good oil to have and I find slow release B vitamins during the last phase post ovulation have helped me more than anything. Also working with my lifestyle so I can hide away for a few days and really listen to my inner wise woman, I now call that time pre menstrual magic time. It hasn't always been that way though believe me, I've worked for it over the past decade...

a friend had success with 40 mg of B6 for about three days right at the first sign of discomfort.

I'm allergic to fish. Is there anything else that may work?

For vegetarians, evening primrose would be the number one choice followed by borage oil.

Dairy is the number one food to avoid if you want to prevent PMS. At the very least avoid it for two weeks before menstruation but best is total avoidance.

My PMS went away after an effective liver cleanse. When the liver is clean hormones are able to be broken down and flushed out of the body as they should be. My skin cleared up nicely too. No more monthly outbreaks. I used NCD: www.zeolitepro.com. My PMS was very severe, 10-14 days of very unpleasant emotional symptoms and a fibroid as well. It also vanished when my liver was clean.
