Tibetan Detox Tip for Exercise Routines

Adapted from Tibetan Ayurveda by Robert Sachs (Healing Arts Press, 2001).

This Tibetan detox tip, for any exercise that draws a sweat, is so deeply rooted in common sense you wonder why you hadn’t thought of it yourself. You’ll be way ahead of the game in trying to rid your body of all the pollution we live with just by adding these two simple steps to your normal workout.

Rub sesame oil into the skin before exercise.
Following exercise, before showering, rub your skin with a lentil or chickpea flour to pull out the toxins that get attracted into the oil from the exercise. Shower as normal.

There are enzymes available at health food stores that will eat things like that in the drain. We should not have to use any toxic drain cleaners, that is not necessary and only makes corporations rich and we and our planet sick. It doesn't seem necessary to use the flour to me anyway because the sweat is going to go down the drain with the oil...

Camilla, would baking soda work as a replacement for the chic pea flour...I would think it would!
I use Epsom & baking soda for a detox bath.

Does Chickpea or lentil flour have to be used or can it just be any flour? I dont think i can find that sort of flour where I live.

So true Sally! That's why it's recommended to pour boiling water down your drain periodically. I think even if you oil and don't use any flour afterwards, the oil alone will clog it up eventually. A long time ago someone told me of a drain product specifically for this (non-toxic) but I don't know the name of it. If anyone knows, please share.

Sally Bennett

Oiling oneself may be good, but if you shower with some kind of flour and wash that down the drain, your drain will eventually clog up.

The Five Tibetans, a form of yoga, is also fantastic!
