Top 10 Ways to Protect Your Dog from Fleas

1. Spot-on Treatments

Despite the name, this is a very effective way to protect your pet. The applied drops create a full body water-repellent shield that won’t wash off, even during swimming or playing in the rain. Spot-on medication can also stop the active progress of the flea life cycle. Select a treatment based on your dog’s size, weight and age — too little won’t work, and too much can potentially poison your pet.

Revolution used once a month solves the problem. So much simpler than all this other stuff.

As France has banned quite a few chemicals, which were used in flea treatments, over the past few years some makes were withdrawn from the market Some others were modified, which often led to lack of efficacity. I only ever use Frontline now and have found it very efficient !!!

Fellow Care2 members - if you're an animal lover, please read this article too .....

http://www.care2.com/causes/this-man-is-running-out-of-food-to-feed-400-rescued-dogs.html

Teresa W started a petition on April 25 2013, to ask Care2 to make this a Butterfly Credits item. The link is below, please check it out, SIGN and tell your friends !!!!!!!

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/309/014/262/introduce-butterfly-credits-to-help-a-dog-rescuer/

This is a great idea - a cause where we could actually SEE our credits working - ask Care2 to give us the POSSIBILITY to support this cause with our Butterfly Credits !!!!

Come on all you members who have been stockpiling your credits - SIGN Teresa's petition and get this project moving - then you'll have something really special to support !!!

The petition reached the first 1,000 signatures in this first week but we need MANY MANY more signatures if this is going to be taken seriously ....... so please spread the word !!!!!

Apologies for posting "off subject" but I really feel this merits it - Thank you !!!

My dog had fleas.... Sing with me now....
I went to the store to get over the counter flea shampoo , and read the label. It stated humans should not breathe it , and more. I put it back on the shelf. I won't put anything like that on my best friend. I had a cup with a little soapy water next to my bed and picked them off every night, dropped them in the cup. Took awhile, but neither of us minded. Brewers yeast sprinkled on the dog food helps. She loves the flavor on her food, and fleas hate the way the coat smells.

Have found that using Frontline for all the cats (4) and all the dogs (5) has pretty much stopped everything. You must ensure that the treatment is given exactly one month since the previous one to avoid any breaks

Do not want to use toxins on dogs (now gone/old age) too many chemicals and natural alternatives weren't explored here! Rather shocking.

Have always been owned by cats who require different alternatives as dog flea treatment can damage a cat's health but many are just as toxic as for dogs.

Using borax on a rug is toxic for both cats/dogs as it can cause kidney failure, licking of the paws and what not. Salt on the rug sounds interesting but will it gum up the gears of the vacuum cleaner (as Kimberley mentioned for diatomaceous earth killing off her vac).

A 50-50 percent baking powder/salt (dry, no water) mixed in a sprinkle bottle is helpful. Sprinkle this and allow it to set work over 2-3 days which good for carpets/ floor while spraying one's unhappy cat/dog with steeped water and lemon rinds that have set for an hour. Spray the pet with this liquid the next day (don't soak the fur). Cats dislike lemons, dogs-it depends! Avoid eyes!

Too many pages, yes there is advertising but far too long! Picked this for Daily Action as I have already completed the 2 available for the weekend, maybe Care2 can have a choice of 10 items as many have completed the Daily Action long ago.
