Top 5 Reasons to Drink More Water

By Rachel Venokur-Clark, Eat. Drink. Better

Water is essential. Your body is made up of over 70% water; making water the single most important nutrient, apart from oxygen. Water not only re-hydrates your body, but it moves vital nutrients though out your body, removes waste from your system, aids in digestion and can even help you to lose weight.

It’s ideal to drink at least 8 glasses of water though out the day to ensure you are getting all of the amazing benefits water has to offer. Don’t wait until your body tells you are thirsty, by that point you are already dehydrated and may be feeling false hunger pangs. Our brains can’t decipher the difference between being thirsty and being hungry. The stomach growl you experience at 3PM may actually be your body telling you that you have not had enough water today.

Headaches, poor concentration, fatigue, constipation and dry skin are signals that you are not drinking enough water. Your body may also retain water, holding on to the small supply it is getting, if you do not give it enough water. When you begin to drink more water daily, these symptoms should begin to alleviate.

It's a shame that we are at a point where we can't even trust water. I, myself, am particularly concerned about fluoride. The only way to ensure that you are not getting fluoride is to use RO (Reverse Osmosis), because your regular carbon filters just don't filter it out.

We here in the Tacoma, WA area have some of the best water in the country. Some places here have rusting pipes so the water comes out of their taps yellow and with icky stuff in it. But the natural water is phenomenal! So when it comes from the utility company it's phenomenal!

Drink lots! Pee more!!

Hi, Bren Kenyon. I agree ... tap water is for THE BIRDS. Well, actually, with all of the toxic ingredients in it, it really isn't any better for them, either. In fact, given the well-reported media accounts of MEDICATIONS found in our waterways (Prozac, etc., etc.), tap water is scarier than ever!

I would, however, offer a suggestion. Freezing or chilling your water for recreational purposes is fine, but for serious therapeutic intentions, water is best consumed at room temperature. Water that is too cold passes through our system too much to be of any real medicinal benefit. Just a tip from your neighbor HOLISTIC JOE. :-)

I love to drink water but not that chlorinated stuff from the faucet--that just makes me feel sick! I drink Evian water and I really love the way it tastes and I put in one of my freezy cups to keep it nice and cold plus it has lots of minerals in it too!

I have an Ionizer & I drink a lot of my alkaline water, I just seem to crave it. It is so good & refreshing! I was low on my PH & I am feeling so much better now with the proper level. I never have any problems drinking all the water I need & it it so good to flush out the toxins in your body! So drink up as often as you want, it is good for you & your body with Thank you for it!

Actually when you are dehydrated, the blood pressure can drop b/c there is not enough fluid available to make pressure and to compensate your heart rate goes up. You can also suffer from headaches with dehydration.

While there are many more reasons to drink PURE water, these are ample reasons to start now! Here's what I do for motivating frequent drinking:

(1) Sipping on a liter of water with the juice of a freshly-squeezed lemon (1/2), as suggested in the article, is very good. Give it a hearty try and you will love it. Organic lemon is best, of course. Don't use lemon juice, whatever you do.

(2) For fun, in a liter bottle, I will mix 30% organic apple juice, juice from 1/2 lemon, and the rest in purified or spring water. While this is NOT a replacement for the therapeutic need for water, it is a perfect way to replace other beverages, including soda and sugary fruit juices. Also, the kids LOVE it! Lots of nutrients in this mix, too.

(3) I use 2 drops of Young Living's PEPPERMINT OIL per liter of purified or spring water. Peppermint Oil has a TON of therapeutic benefits, including natural appetite suppression, cleansing the digestion, and naturally reducing fatigue. Contact me and I'll share.

Why Young Living? Because they make "therapeutic grade" oils as opposed to the inferior and even dangerous brands out there: http://budurl.com/kahx.

Now GO AND DRINK WATER!! :-)

To Tony S:
Try adding a little electrolyte solution to your water - it makes it more palatable and also helps combat the sluggish, groggy feeling
