8 Common Exercise Myths (Slideshow)

  • 2 of 9

1. Not sweating? Then work harder!

The truth is, sweat isn’t an indicator of how hard you’re working or how many calories you’re burning. All it shows is that your body is cooling itself. Another factor is that the amount of sweat glands vary from person to person. And, if you are working up a sweat, be sure to stay hydrated!

some good myths debunked! to be honest though, if you read something, check it out elsewhere to see if the information is correct or does it give completely different information? check it comes from a reputable source, such as a medical journal, or scientific background-not someone who is trying to sell you something! i've created a folder all to do with 'healthy', from diet myths or tips, to exercises with different equipment for different parts of the body. i've resourced from a variety of places and then collated the information together. i'm quite happy that the information is correct and not false and the exercises are safe to do!

"Turn fat into muscle" of course isn't literally true, but I wouldn't say it's a myth, either. Exercise does generally result in a decrease in fat and an increase in muscle (changing the ratio, as stated), so it is a true statement as long as you take it metaphorically.
