Top Dog Names for 2011

Fidos and Spots of the world, where have you gone? Banfield Pet Hospital has compiled the top 50 dog names of 2011, and there’s nary a Rover or Fifi among them. Banfield is the largest privately owned veterinary practice in the United States–and with a patient database compiled from over 780 hospitals across the country, they seem a reliable authority on the year’s most popular pet names. What’s the name of your dog(s)? Is your pooch’s name on the list?

49. Oreo
48. Missy
47. Mia
46. Teddy

I agree with Dale........it depends on the individual animal. I guess Fen D. has some "prejudice" against 4-legged critters having names that are also given to humans, but like many here, I don't. I had a horse with a "barn name" of Molly, which was just short for her registered name. I've also had cats named "Ginger" and "Pepper".....one was an orange tabby, the other a dark grey tabby, so I thought they fit nicely. I also had a horse named "Shadow" (she was coal black), and my former Golden was "Casey" (Casey at the bat?) and now my current pupper is "Jesse", after the character on "Breaking Bad". My daughter's filly is "Shelby", and one of her dogs is "Howie", short for "Howler" because he's half Siberian Husky and tries to howl like his Mom, but it just doesn't come out quite right.

My grandma had a peke called Fifi.

Why does this have to be pointlessly spread over 5 pages?

An interesting article with delightful dog photos. A friend has a cat called Missy.

I agree with Shan D when it comes to choosing names and taking some time to find a suitable one that really suits the personality of the pet.

Sometimes the name of a pet has an interesting history as well.

I like Shadow, Angel, Duke, Princess, and Bella, Some of the others are my idea of ugly names.

Regarding Bella. It's such a popular name for a mare that I have three Bellas in the house - two paintings and a print. One of the paintings is the public favourite of all the paintings that have ever been out of this house. So, yes, I live with a very popular Bella.

Very surprised my doggies name "Jessie" Isn't up there, though no surprises Bella is number 1, already know three dogs with that name.
