Dear Annie,
I do lots of Indian cooking for which reason I use the spice “turmeric” often. (If you’re not familiar with turmeric, it’s derived from a bright orange/yellow root and ground into powder. The powder is yellow–really, really yellow–and it stains anything it touches.) A while back, I spilled a whole lot of soup made with turmeric on my kitchen carpet, which is light cream colored. I’ve not yet been able to get rid of the stain. Any suggestions? –Meagan
Dear Meagan,
Funny you should write about this, as I was once prescribed a horrible yellow medicine that I spilled all over my mother’s oriental rug (it happened to be primarily light cream colored, too). I expect the stain would be almost the same as turmeric. I cleaned it entirely and completely by dabbing it with straight 3 percent Hydrogen Peroxide, available in any pharmacy!

Good idea. It's also easy to grow lavender in your own garden.
Going out in the garden and eat dirt!

Thanks!! I use it alot and it gets on the counter sometimes
I wish I had this years ago when a whole bottle of Turmeric opened up inside my brand new white kitchen drawer, the stain was pretty, however, and I lived with it. This remedy is nice to have just in case it happens again---- outside ---one of my drawers. Thank you!
Thanks for the information.
I thought turmeric's yellow color was due to it being already oxidized.
Thanks.
