I was vegan during pregnancies, later, vegetarian because from time to time I eat the whites of two eggs that I use to make an Spanish omelet (onion & potatoes) Eggs are from pet hens that live free (but protected - No males around.) and not use as food. I was never anemic or deficient during pregnancies, before or after - tests done - and my babies born in 1/2 hour. 7 1/2 pounds (each) of healthy baby and I stood in great shape. I am very petite & non diabetic so this was seen with good eyes. I used to lived - literally- in front of the medicine university (I began to study medicine) and my friends used to visit my home constantly, obviously, coming from that "'unhealthy" environment!. Babies never got sick! Their pediatrician was my teacher, the head of the dept and my neighbor and his kids were not as healthy as mine and believe me, they ate "very well'!- He used to comment on this - My kids have never been anemic or deficient either. My last cold was about12 years ago and was nothing but a subtle sensation in the nostrils. No discharge, no cough etc...ended in two days. I could be suffering from osteoporosis now but I am not. Checked. No, I don't need to eat meat or dairy and I don't want to. I want to keep the environment healthy, I want to keep water clean, I do not want to see hunger in the world and I do not want animals to suffer and die for the cause of the satisfaction for the taste for meat. Not me.
I can't believe it would even be asked. Hardly anyone bats an eyelash at women gorging on greasy, fatty, processed junk. And yet there are people that wonder if eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is unhealthy for a growing fetus. what is unhealthy while pregnant is eating whoppers, fried chicken, etc.

Thank you Health Guru, for Sharing this!
Why not? In other countries such as india, there´s a tradition in not eating meat for generations.
Children need B12 and other important nutrients while their organs are developing.
Vegetarian may not be so bad, but vegan is not good.
Everyone is different, and no single diet is right for everyone.
I wouldn't take the risk of not eating a nutritionally balanced diet during pregnancy.
Just silly...off couse it's healthy to be Veggei while pregnant!!!
