Why Do You Give Back to Nature?

Why Do You Give Back to Nature?

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and along with it — the season of giving back and giving thanks.

At The Nature Conservancy, the environmental nonprofit where I work, we recently reached out to our supporters around the globe to ask them why do you give back to nature?

The answers have been inspiring and moving. Each of our supporters has a story about why they choose to give their time, energy or money. Sometimes it’s to leave a legacy. For others it’s about honoring a loved one or protecting the natural world that they love so dearly. As Rochester artists and teachers Leila Nadir and Cary Peppermint told us, “We feel strongly that there should be places where nature can be itself, where the land can express itself and remain undeveloped.”

Here are a few more of my favorite quotes that our supporters have shared:

All parents should give their kids an opportunity to get outdoors.

I love the unpredictability that you find being out in nature – not knowing what bird you’ll find or what flowers will be in bloom.

We care so much. It’s better to have tried and lost than to never have tried at all.

If we take the natural open spaces for granted, we’ll lose them.

What about you? Why do you choose to give back to nonprofits and charities?

Tell us why you give back to nature and help us inspire others to give back as well!

Nature -- meaning places left alone by mankind for as long as possible -- range from facinating, interesting, to fantastic, awesome and words cannot describe them! Natrual areas hold countless adventures from sedentary to athletic! To be able to comfortly inhabit a natural area and feel totally at home is a good experience -- and a good goal ! Natural areas are the place to be!

I give back to nature because i love nature, its like a mother to us all, nourishing and nurturing us, it has stood by us even when we have done nothing but tarnish her purity! The least i can do for mother nature is to preserve her purity and that i'll do my best!

There should never be a SEASON for giving back and giving thanks but rather a DAILY INBRED ACTIVITY for all gifts freely given, in the beginning, and now most often abused. That mindset could help make the difference needed to preserve what's left of the wonder of nature. Worthy effort which offers hope.
