Why ‘Natural’ Doesn’t Mean Healthy (Video)

The word “natural” is a very powerful, persuasive and earthy-sounding adjective. We may see this word on everything from Sunchips bags to fruit juice. If you look a little closer, you’ll realize that this powerful, persuasive and earthy-sounding adjective is actually undefined by the very agency responsible for food safety. The FDA has no formal meaning for natural. Food companies don’t use this word to describe food, but to advertise it. Naturally, this can confuse even the most health-conscious consumer.

Natural means nothing at all. Some feel that natural mean that there are no "chemicals" - that too means nothing - at least as far as health value is concerned.

Some of the most toxic substances known to man are 100% all natural - cobra venom, poisonous mushrooms, plants etc.

Digitalis , is a poisonous plant that you can grow in your garden, but if a chemist does a little voodoo on it , it becomes a therapeutic heart medication. So, in that sense , the man re-made version is better than the all natural one. The examples are endless.

So, "natural" alone means nothing. Not good nor bad in and of itself.

What makes this all the more confusing if not insidious is the way MARKETERS have used and abused this word, playing upon our perceptions and yes, naivete

don't be fooled...

Barbara, you cannot wash off the pesticides that produce absorbs while it grows. You can only wash off the remainder of the last pesticide application.
