We can't get enough vitamin C from foods alone. Supplementation is necessary because humans lost the ability to make our own C during evolution and most of us need more. I encourage you to read up on the research of Dr. Linus Pauling and Dr. Rath in this field of research. I take mega doses of C now with other amino acids and no longer need blood pressure or cholesterol medicine.
A little known but very important trait of Vit. C is that it helps in absorption of Iron; thereby, it possibly enables our blood, with higher oxygen levels, to repair/ strengthen tissues, fight bacteria and make it inimical for some of them to survive.
People who have trouble absorbing vitamin should be careful. It happens that the body does not recognize the vitamins you use,and stores it as a waste which can be very dangerous.So be careful and make sure that you do not have such a problem, because then the most ordinary vitamin can cause a big problem.

Vitamin C is in alot of things; it should be easy to get it into your system.
