Women: What Do You Wish You Had More Time For?

Women: What Do You Wish You Had More Time For?

Over the weekend, I asked people what they would do if they had more time. I wanted to explore what’s being left behind in the hustle and bustle of daily life and why. Here is what I noticed:

1. Interestingly, only women responded to my inquiry. In the spirit of full-disclosure, I have an estrogen-strong virtual community but there are plenty of men there, men who regularly participate in the dialogue, and there was not a peep from any of them.

I can’t tell whether the silence was about impression management of the whole strong manly-man thing or not. Maybe I inadvertently timed those posts to appear when all of the men were otherwise occupied with man things. Whatever the cause of their silence, I couldn’t help but wonder if men are already doing what they mean to with their time.

2. Nobody mentioned housework, jobs, or time with children, partners, etc. In fact, except for friends, other people didn’t come up at all.

3. Every single response was something that, at least on the surface, is an activity would only serve (meaning make happy, healthy, hopeful, etc.) the woman who isn’t doing it.

What follows is a list of the most common responses plus thoughts on why waiting for our schedules to magically open up isn’t enough (plus inspiring quotes and beautiful pictures to engage more of your senses). At the bottom of the last page, you’ll find a not-even-remotely-veiled invitation to my Sick of Being Stuck program in case you decide that it’s time to make space for YOU in your life.

I love this post, partly because it made me feel good about all the little things I DO managed to do for myself instead of just thinking I'm not doing enough.

Christy, I always enjoy your articals, but there is one thing I feel I must point out. Our bodies are NOT machines! Or temples. They are animals, human mammals that our 'spirits' live in for their earthly visit.Perhaps this old belief of 'body as a machine' is at the root of a lot of self disreguard that incourages us to let others determine our use of attention. We don't assume the bodies of our pets or work animals, or food animals are machines, so why do we think our own bodies can be treated like equipment that can be pushed to the max every day? I'm a massage therapist and there are some clients whoes personality just annoy the hell out of me, but I can always emphathize with their bodies. It's like a neglected horse with a stupid rider who has no sense of the emotional nature, or physical needs of their own loyal steed. Acknowledge your body as a creature who loves you and you will not confuse your spiritual nature with your bodys nature. It's the one that wants to move and dance, sleep more, drink more water, make music and get the mind to shut up long enough to just be so the energy that feeds all can flow thru unobstructed.

Thanks for the lovely post. It's interesting to see what people said. I would like time to pick up music again and learn how to use my second-hand table loom, but soon I will be making time to travel and learn some other things, so for now those things can wait.

I've got all the time I need. I spend it with my Life Review in mind.

Thank you, great read! I'm homeschooled so I do lots of these things in my free time, after school work. Everyone can always make a little time for something. I enjoy art, guitar, sleep, reading, and pretty much everything on this list :)

Having enough time is age related. Never enough when children are smaller. Just do the best one can. Time management can be applied with success to all other life circumstances.
