World’s Cutest Creature: Long-Eared Jerboa (Video)

Here is the first known film of the long-eared jerboa, an endangered Mongolian rodent with kangaroo-type legs, filmed by the Zoological Society of London. Is there any creature cuter than this?

Just like the pygmy jerboa, absolutely gorgeous. BUT PLEASE DON'T ASK FOR ONE AS A PET. This creature is already endangered, if he becomes part of the pet trade his fate is sealed.

Jerboas are fascinating desert rodents that are well adapted to their desert lives and do not actually have to drink water as they get all the liquid required from their diet. A splendid adaptation for a little one living in the heat/cold of the desert.

While some are tempted to have these cuties as a pet they are nocturnal and live a fairly solitary life and no, people cannot really give this little one a better life than the one that they live naturally. They do quite well for themselves and maybe someone's idea of a plush life living in a living room cage may fill their own needs but this adaptable rodent has well honed survival and food findings skills.

Cute as a button yes, pet...no! The jerboa will "kangeroo hop" quickly away if his sensitive ears ever heard "Stay we me, be my pet!" "Catch you later!" this little guy will say as he hops speedily away to enjoy its life in either the cold or heat of the desert.
