Spa Cuisine: Zesty Lemon Detox Tea Recipe

This recipe was designed as a cleansing tea to stimulate processing of excess fats in the body, rev up circulation, and provide essential antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals —a perfect blend of nutrients. It’s a great aid in undoing the effects of holiday over-indulgence, and Annie says she was given the same tea by a helpful friend after she was exposed to toxic chemicals. But it tastes so good, you’ll want to come back for seconds: We had a crock-pot filled with it for a recent women’s workshop and it was gone in no time!
This is a great recipe that really gets around, and it’s so easy to prepare.
INGREDIENTS
Enough freshly-boiled water to fill your teacup or mug
1 tablespoon real maple syrup
Freshly-squeezed juice of half a lemon
Cayenne pepper to taste
Simply stir ingredients together in your mug or cup. Be careful with the cayenne: A little goes a long way.

This sounds like the ingredients for what is called the Master Cleanser which we drink one tall glass of in the morning when we get up and in the evening as well. Instead of lemon, pure apple cider vinegar Unfiltered, is added 1 tb. AND for the BEST effect that the cleanse can do for ridding toxins, fat cells, etc is to definately leave the ceyenne in. You really dont taste it and it doesnt burn, it mildly warms but thats it. What it does is really makes sure the cleanse drink gets right into your cells to do its thing for you and gives you a big boost of vitamin C too! The healthiest drink on the planet! ENJOY!!

It is my understanding that it is the oil in the skin of the lemon that has the beneficial effects, thus the use of 'fresh' lemon as opposed to juice or extract.

The original recipe calls for organic maple syrup and organic lemons. Drink it whenever you get hungry. You're supposed to drink a quart of salt water once a day as well. My mother in law did this for 21 days as a cleanse. Personally, I couldn't stomach the salt water but it's well known homeopathy to drink warm water and lemon first thing in the morning to promote regular bowel movements.

Not sure about the whole maple syrup issue in Canada, but I make sure I buy it locally. I am lucky to live in NY where the maple syrup (and honey) come from a small family farm in the next town. Keep it local makes so many of these issues mute in our daily lives. If the big consortiums don't have any customers they will get the message!
