PETA is calling on Quentin Davies MP, Minister for Defence Equipment & Support, to stop using bear pelts to make headpieces for the five guard's regiments and to have the hats fashioned from luxurious faux fur instead.

The British Army is full of far more honourable traditions than bearskin hats and this is one they could easily drop. Not only sparing the bears all the cruelty of being hunted but save money by having a much more user friendly more easily available product!

Soldiers dying through lack of kit in Afghanistn etc might well benefit from svings on ceremonial hats being diverted to active duty requirements! A case of Pomp before Safety!

Thank you for making the pledge "Stop the Slaughter of Bears for Caps!"

Your e-mail has been sent to Quentin Davies, MP, procurement minister for the MoD, but please don't stop there. By forwarding this campaign to your friends and family and asking them to e-mail Davies, you are increasing the chances of bringing a quick end to this needless suffering.

It makes me wonder what decade they are living in. Aren't Prince Charles and Prince Philip staunch cnservationists? How does that work?

Thanxxx... they don't need to do this for their honour and traditions, time they moved into the 21 century and decided that Dolce and Gabbanna would be more fitting...

“It is hard to fathom that anyone is still wearing fur. It is so plain to see that killing animals for their fur is completely barbaric. The only purpose is vanity.” ~Joaquin Phoenix

My addition to the letter.

Modern faux fur is now very difficult to tell from the skin of a bear. It would also be much cheaper whilst being lighter and easier for the soldiers to wear, something to consider with global warming and the increase of temperatures in the summer. Finally, it will not cost the life of a bear for something which is no longer necessary to do and help the UK with leading in protecting the planet and wildlife is as much an essential part of part of this plan as cutting CO2 emissions.

Ive no time for any of the pomposity and outdated idiocy surrounding the UKs "royal family".I'd gladly see the the aristos do proper jobs ,and the guards do something more useful too.The fact that my taxes, have for so long paid for cruelty to bears, makes me even less inclined towards the whole bad idea.
