How dare the teacher take matters into her hands like that - she had no authority or right and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law besides being sued by the parents of that poor child...and the other monster needs incarceration and help! Buncha boneheads that this even happened! Thanks Cher...

I would expect NOTHING less than this teacher being removed, and fired from her position as a teacher at this school. This teacher's actions are reprehensible to say the least. I extend my sympathy to this young lady, and her family!! I would also press charges against this student that raped her, (outside of the school district), by filing a report with the local sheriff's office/police department. Thank you, Cher for this report/petition.

It's inconceivable that the teacher did not report the abuser to the principal, the parents, and the police--instead, her entrapment attempt endangered and further traumatized the victim of the sexual harassment. This teacher should be sued as well for criminal negligence.

Whilst I can see the motivation of the teacher to catch the culprit surely the student's safety should have been paramount and in any case is this sort of cloak and dagger stuff is best left to the police! An irresponsible action at best! However having worked in schools and colleges it is quite likely the teacher may have been intimidated into not letting the school down by reporting it to the police! The outcome of this amateur sleuthing is going to haunt the child for the rest of their life sadly not to mention the hours of therapy and counselling that will no doubt be required for her to cope with the trauma and it's after effects! My thoughts and prayers are with this young girl!

Noted & signed. I'm somewhat reluctant to condemn the teacher at this point as the story is unclear as to what actually happened. It says that the teacher used the girl as bait, but how? What happened before? I also do not trust the media and how they portray anything.

Having said that my first reaction is that the principal and the board of people (we call them governors in the UK) who are legally and financially responsible for what happens in the school should be dealt with. The principal fired and the governors forced to pay compansation to all of the female teachers who were harrassed. This does include this teacher who may have reached a point where she was so frightened and didn't know what else to do. I doubt that she expected this girl to be raped but this does not excuse her behaviour.

Having said that, the teacher had no right to use the girl as bait (assuming that she did) certainly without discussing it with her parents and ensuring that there was protection in place for her welfare. Had any precaution been taken then we woud not be discussing this now.

The bottom line is that I am sorry for this girl and everyone else who has suffered for this school's refusal to do what was right and protect the women and girls at the school. It is more than negligence, it was a deliberate refusal to ensure all female wellbeing and safety.

This is such a horrible situation that this child was put into. THAT teacher should be charged with a criminal offense along with the boy that raped her. I don't understand why the school isn't being charged for hiring this teacher, & condoning her self righteous dealings with these students. She need's to be investigated ASAP, and put on PROBATION, Until the whole matter is addressed and the case is taken care of totally? I feel so bad for this child who was put in the wrong place at the wrong time,GOD BLESS!

Signed and noted. Excuse me but why is this teacher the only one held accountable and not the so called administrators that knew of this demented child's behavior problems? He should have been gone long ago. Granted the teacher was totally in the wrong, why did he/she have to go to such lengths to get justice? There are enough lawsuits to go around. they better be glad it was not my child. I'd sue the school board, all the administrators individually and the stupid teacher. More evidence of degreed idiots without an inch of common sense.

Place the student who carried out this rape into custody, without the right of bail and, when this creature is found guilty, put him away for the length of time needed to reassure the women of the USA that he will be released when he is deemed to be completely harmless to women. This type of positive action, by the Courts, would send out the correct message to those who may be inclined to act in the same, inappropriate way.

HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMOVED ALONG TIME AGO!!! WHY DID IT TAKE FOR THIS CHILD TO RAPED!!! FOR ANY ACTION TAKEN !!! WHEN A CHILD IS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY THE SCHOOL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF THAT CHILD!!! WHAT DO U EXPECT!!! TEENAGE BOYS AND EVEN GROWN MEN, FEEL ENTITLED TO TREAT WOMAN AS SEX OBJECTS WITH NO SAY!!! AS A WOMAN I FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT ANY ISSUE INVOLVING RAPE ESPECIALLY TO A MINOR!!! WE NEED TO EDCUATE TEENAGE BOYS ABOUT WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE AND WHAT IS NOT!!! AND ALSO IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AND GIRL IS EXPERIENCING ANY KIND OF HARRASEMENT, SHE NEEDS TO FIRST GO TO HER PARENTS AND THEN TO THE AUTHORITIES, DONT LET THE "SCHOOL" HANDLE ANYTHING!!! THEY ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE AND ALSO LIKE TO COVER UP!!!

The teacher did not protect her student with her plan which back fired. If she devised this stupid plan then how good a teacher can she be? For all the teachers to know that ths student was a predator and not ban together to safe guard their students or have this deviate removed should have them all fired and this particular school closed down.

Here's some information on the lawsuit the girl's family is bringing:

"[The teacher] is one of six defendants named in the lawsuit. The others are the principal, two assistant principals, the boy who allegedly raped the girl and the Madison County School board." ~ WAFF.com, Sept. 28

Why didn't the administration call in the police when the boy started harassing girls?

The teacher was in fact an accomplice to the rape in that she set up conditions for it to occur. Sorry teacher but it was the student that suffered, not you, and although unwilling, you are responsible.
The situation is a mess. The police should have been notified before this girl had this painful experience.
Seems if they had a bully program they could have followed that if they had stages of bullying identified. When harm is probable, only the police should be involved in any kind of sting.

Very strange story. Sounds like the principal and other school "authorities" knew this boy was a loose canon.
1.
Why didn't they watch him like a hawk, or have him make daily visits with a school shrink? Were they "afraid" that the boy's parents would sue them for suggesting their kid had a problem?
2.If the teacher was "teaching" how could she be helping catch the boy...how could she be in two places at once?
Why wasn't she lurking in the next stall next to the girl, where she could have jumped the jerk.
3.Why didn't she give the girl mace to carry with her, or one of those alarm things?
Sounds like a horrible school system! Demand recall of authorities, teacher, principal!

I am outraged at the direction the outage is taking. While the teacher was negligent should deal with the consequences, you have to consider that she was the only one attempting to do anything. The administration knew, likely they and law enforcement would not act without evidence. The school principal and district administrators should be the first to loose their jobs. The police department should also be investigated if any reports were actually filed. If the teacher alone is punished it will send the message that stupidity is worse than willful disregard and that is not acceptable. The teacher was likely forced in to this position due to inaction at higher levels. Too often a teacher is left with no resources to deal with problems and no one to go to receive help.

Vigilantly justice doesn't make it o.k. to put another innocent student in harms way. This teacher used poor judgment and should have known better to use a different route in order to achieve her objective.
