Oh, come on people, get over it already. Just because we consider horses (and dogs and cats) pets, doesn't make it any different than eating beef or chicken or pork. Really, many countries in the world eat many things that we don't. As long as there is industry regulation in how they are raised and slaughtered, then what's the difference? Why in the world isn't there nearly the same uproar when these shows showcase foie gras? Or don't people realize how foie gras is made?

Horse meat is good for you and they are certainly rAISED IN BETTER CONDITIONS THAN CHICKENS AND VEAL. No-one seems to boycott McDeaths or( K)illers of (F)riendly (C)hickens...

wow! I can't believe they would show that! It's disgusting! They should take that of the air RIGHT NOW!

I once saw a show what feature a recipe with leeks! Gross! I hate leeks! They should take that off the air too!

They should only do things I like! I don't want to know about anything that I don't already know! Shame on them for making me think and trying to open up my mind!

am very disappointed that horse meat and foie gras are being featured on Top Chef Canada. For more information on why restaurants should decline to serve foie gras why grocery stores should decline to sell it visit spca.bc.ca.

I adopted a horse that was rescued from being sent to slaughter. She was bought by a rescuer at a horse auction instead of being bought by the "meat man". That was four years ago and she is now a healthy, happy horse living out her life in good care. But when she was rescued she was had clearly been starved and neglected for some time.

Responsible horse owners typically sell their horses privately. It is a gross generalization but it is often irresponsible horse owners who sell their horses at auction, which is where they are bought for slaughter. Horses are not raised for meat. Horses that end up as meat are horses that for some reason or another were no longer wanted. They were raised by people and around people to be a working of animal of some kind, either for ranch work, competition or other riding activities. It is only because we allow horse slaughter in this country that horses end up on dinner plates at all. If we don't tolerate the slaughter of cats and dogs for food production then why do we tolerate it for horses.

All of this is besides the cruelty of the slaughter process which should be another compelling reason to decline to use horse meat in any of your shows.

I hope the particular episode in question will not be aired. My parents are foodies, I get it. But when did we start to believe that we can suspend our ethics for the sake of gluttony.
