Farrowing crates are small metal cages designed to restrict the movement of sows for the duration of the nursing period after she births a litter. She is moved to this restrictive cage days before delivering her litter and remains there until the piglets

Factory farming is an abomination beyond any words I could muster. Abolishing farrowing crates would be a positive step in the right direction. Oh, so much further to go.

Signed and noted. I saw a sow in a cage like this once and couldn't believe it. It just hurt my feeling so bad! I found the "owner" of the sow and asked him why she was incapable of movement. His response was they were kept enclosed like that so they didn't roll over onto their piglets and kill them. Think the sow would probably know if she was getting too close to her babies!
