How devastating that decision must have been. Couldn't imagine.
At least they just didn't dump them off elsewhere. Sigh!

I applaud them for leaving them where they could be properly cared for.

I agree with Ellen.... it must've been devestating to the owners to make such a heart wrenching decision...even if they knew they could face jail time...however, it was very cruel to leave the girls and the puppy in the cold, freezing, rain. Thank GOD someone found them! I pray that GOD will re-home them TOGETHER! Thnx Cher :)

Clearly a difficult situation but the people who left the dogs should have faced up to their obligations and presented the dogs when the shelter was open - I wonder if they would have treated children in the same way!

I don't agree with the owners doing this, but I know I have been turned away when trying to find a shelter to take dogs I have found, so I can kind of understand them doing this when they were closed. I'm also happy they left them at a shelter & didn't just turn them loose on the street. No easy answers when the resources aren't available to the owners or the shelters.

I feel very sorry, not only for those dogs but as well for their owners. I firmly disagree with Kye J. Why would homeless people buy cigarettes and alcohol ? That's just prejudice!

Very sad but true, at least their person didn't just dump them somewhere. It must have been very hard for him/her to do that.

If this is really the reason they were abandoned, it's unbelievably sad to have to give up your pets. I hope they find new homes.

The economy is hard on more than just humans. Lucky dogs found care and somewhere to wait and hope for new homes, not just a PETA kill facility. Happy holidays...

It is understandable if the previous owners were homeless or unable to find somewhere to live with their animals. despite that, they at least left them together, outside a shelter and the article does not say that the dogs were unwell or mistreated. Someone loved them. Didn't just dump them but then the Brits are generally very close to their pets.
Hope they find somewhere for them together.

So sad that our society has so many homeless people. I just read that there are 1.6 million homeless children in the USA. Saddens my heart for these poor children. I hope things turn around soon.

So sad good luck.. both dogs and guys. At least they will find better homes now. I dont see why people are mad at the homeless ones? Better do leave the dogs homeless one night than for the rest of the night where it will be permanent homelesness for the dogs and a struggle on the homeless people.

This economy is really rough on everyone........animals and people! One of those dogs was just a puppy tho' so I'm confused as to why they took on another dog if their home situation was bad......or maybe their home situation became bad because they took on another dog! Well, at least the dogs were found and hopefully they will find good homes!

Thanks God this owner had a heart for the animals, considering what the person could have done instead! If this person has come in a situation where the dogs become a burden, which cannot be solved, this was a great way to solve it. I hope they will get new and loving homes thanks to RSPCA. Thanks for sharing.

anyone who looses there job can become homeless in 3 months. I have 3 dogs and if I lost my job, I would take them with me...but to where? how could I feed them? It would brake my heart and spirit to let them go...but what could I do ? I feel sorry for the dogs and the person, I pray I never come to that road and choice. I hope they have pity on the owner if indeed they entered into a dilemma they didn't see or could control..perhaps maybe help them and the dogs to find a place a job and get reunited.

It must have been very difficult to leave their pets. But under the circumstances they surely felt they had no choice.
At least they did not let them run free they had the sense to keep them together and leave them outside a shelter.

this is so sad. I hope the dogs find good forever homes and if the human is telling the whole truth, that he gets on his feet again. At least he took the dogs to the shelter whether than to the country or forest and turn them loose where they can't defend themselves.
