The Alaska Mental Health Trust recently leased 10,000 acres of land in Chickaloon for coal development. This project like many other projects in the Valley will be located extremely close to private property and residential neighborhoods.

PROCESSING Coal must be washed and treated before it is shipped to power plants for burning. This processing creates coal slurry or sludge, a mix of water, coal dust and clay containing toxic chemicals such as arsenic, mercury, lead, and chromium. Now if we think about this, why do we have arsenic in our water and food we grow from the ground?Noted

I wasn't able to find the story, but I am already aware of the dangers presented by coal development. Besides immediate health concerns there is always a high incidence of cancers in areas where mining and such have taken place. I truly regret the fact that mankind is destroying the earth and all life on it.

No one wants this, least of all the residents, nor people like me 1,000s of miles away.
