It's hard to imagine that the family dog can have more environmental impact than an S.U.V., but if pet parents aren't careful, it can most certainly ring true. Pet lifestyle expert, Sandy Robins, shares her tips on how to reduce a pet's carbon "pawprint"

I am a pet parent to a 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. We adopted Bailey when he was 9 months old, there are so many un-wanted dogs around, I believe that everyone should seriously consider adopting before supporting a system which breeds even more dogs when they are lots of homeless ones. I have difficulty with the 'green' poop bags, I have never seen them for sale, I will look again but we deposit his poop in a poop bin provided by our local Government, it is lined with a plastic sack so it really doesn't matter what we use, sadly. We tried a home disposal system, a device buried in the ground, but it encouraged flies and so we had to get rid of it.

our dog's enviro paw print has gotten much higher as he's gotten older.....more wasted food, more canned food, needing to wash blankets/carpet/etc more often....still I am sure his enviro prints are much lower than our neighbors who leave lights on all the time, drive monster SUVs, spray poisons on their gas-mowed lawns, etc......

Excellent article! Best part - adopt from a shelter, never facilitate puppy mills.

Hmm - Did I just read a commercial for Petco?

That said, I DID like their emphasis on spaying/neutering and their adoption weekends.
