Boo hoo Chad Hardin "they were part of the family". Would you tie your kids to a wagon and make them race? The Stampede and other rodeo events are a disaster waiting to happen for animals. Maybe if some people were killed in some of the events they would be shut down. I'm ashamed as a Canadian that they still run the Stampede.

well, hopefully Chad won't try this again with any four legged "part of the family". I don't buy the BS about "accidents happen"...would he let his own young kids drive the chuckwagon? I doubt it if there was a chance the kid could get hurt.
So what happened to the horses? shot on site, then packed up to go outsourced to fancy restaurants as special of the day on the menu?

Agreed, these events should be much more closely controlled so the animals involved are unharmed during the presentation. I wouldn't cancel it, but I would change it from a 'race' to a 'parade'.

HORRIBLE......these chuck wagon races need to be BANNED. These poor horses should NOT be subjected to such cruelty. But, once again GREED AN STUPIDITY go hand in hand. I hope that the injured horse makes a full recovery. ''RIP TO THE HORSES THAT DIED"!!!!!!!!

This is so sickening and preventable. Unfortunately this cowboy attitude will never change and nothing will stop the Stampede until humans start dying in the same numbers as the animals, it brings in too much money and tourism.

shut calgary down. Animals are not put on this earth to be eaten, used for entertainment or to be abused. I hope the animal right groups go after those involved for animal abuse. This proves there is animal abuse going on. Make the insurance rates soar so this can no longer be put on.

Just like humans? Thankfully they are not and if they were humans no one would be making them do this. Will this man or anyone else get the picture that this is not good for horses? I doubt it. Because humans have to think of these ridiculous things for animals to do for the entertainment of other humans many animals die. These horses may indeed have been loved and treated well but this is something that makes not sense. I wouldn't put my horses in that position (if I had horses). This is a very sad thing.

He made his kid's 18 year old horse race? The Calgary Stampede has always been known for putting horses in ridiculously dangerous situations and causing their deaths. Years of protests and petitions have not changed things.

Calgary has long remained a center of the Dark Age, famous for its stampede -- exploitation of animals for human entertainment which causes the animals distress. Those involved in the stampede should be deeply ashamed but I don't think they're bright enough.

noted...this is truly very sad.....there needs to be another way for spectators to amuse themselves instead of using animals for their enjoyment purposes....these animals have no voice in what happens to them whatsoever, and therefore are at the hands of the humans that FORCE them to partake in these ridiculous events....all the people that do this for a f****g dollar will pay a very large price one day....an eye for an eye!!!!
