Regular household refrigerators used to last a lot longer than they do today. Whereas some units from the 60s and 70s were known to keep going after thirty or forty years nowadays we're lucky if a new machine makes it seven or eight.

a (fast expanding) $ickne$$ of our times: calling anything that is (maybe) (a wee bit) less red "green";

greenWASHING, Cosmeticism and Lifestyleism as ERSATZ for real change ..... a "valuable" contribution to killing earth('s biosphere; even faster) and dooming the next generation.

Mama's 'Amana' fridge lasted from 1965 - 1989 and maybe longer. We sold our house after Mama passed away in '89. She'd balk at the purple fridge, tho! lol Thnx Cher!

It's because nothing is built to last anymore.

All part of our throw away society! It's a disgrace-manufacturers should be focusing on producing items that AT LEAST will keep working for a LIFETIME, if not longer... but hey the consuming morons have been told to keep up with the Jones's and this way the thneed producers earn much bigger profits!!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE, CURB YOUR CONSUMPTION!

Cree Prophecy:
When all the trees have been cut down,
When all the animals have been hunted,
When all the waters are polluted,
When all the air is unsafe to breathe,
Only then will you discover
You cannot eat money.

We still have our Manitowac American made frig/freezer purchased in 1968 and it is doing fine. Why buy this new junk that doesn't last. We've monitores our electrical usage with and without this unit and the difference is negligible.

Almost EVERY appliance is INTENTIONALLY made to last a short time.
They need the MONEY of course.
