The cruelty inflicted on horses killed for meat is not just unappetizing--it's unacceptable. Please ask the director of MoMA PS1 to remove horse meat from the menu at the M. Wells Dinette immediately

Disgusting that they would even allow the chef to consider horse meat. Even though the meat is from Canada, the horse was probably from the U.S., trucked into Canada and brutally slaughtered there.

Of course they should not suffer and die int his way; no animal should. Meat is meat and any animal raised in this manner will live in hell until they are slaughtered.

From my friend Kay
Kate Riviello
Today was the first shot over the bow, a great day in front of MoMa where we put them on notice. Elizabeth Forel lead a spirited protest informing the patrons that horse meat would be on the menu. NY1 was on hand to do interviews. We will be working together to strategize the amazing work we have before us, to get the state ban on horse slaughter, transport and even
consumption in NY. Let's start planning to get over 200 people to October 27th. We have much to do!! Most importantly, GET PEOPLE THERE : )) Any questions of course, call me 845 856 7366. Thanks to Ms. Vickery, the NY Times reporter for giving an informative interview for our group. We will post out video of today's event as well. . Thanks again to the Coalition to Ban Horse Drawn Carriages, what a wonderful group, it is no wonder that they will be responsible for getting the ban on horse drawn carriages and it will be NY-ARAA's honor to work with them to get this state band passed.

MoMA Café Chef To Serve Illegal, Tainted Horse Meat?
Bad news may be good publicity, but not when you’re opening a restaurant, as Hugue Dufour, chef and co-owner of M. Wells Dinette learned when he announced he’d be putting horse meat tartare on the menu.

M. Wells opened at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City on September 27. Dufour’s plan was to start serving it once the restaurant “settled into a groove.”

But the sale of horse meat is presently illegal in the U.S. It is also illegal in several states, including California, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas and—as of two weeks ago—New Jersey.

This past May, Mr. Dufour served horse-meat bologna and foie gras grilled-cheese sandwiches at Brooklyn’s Googa Mooga Food Festival, when it was also illegal. Photos and descriptions can be found on M. Wells’ Web site as well as multiple foodie blogs.
“You can’t serve it to the public if it’s not inspected by the USDA,” says retired USDA veterinarian, Dr. Lester Friedlander.

Presently, no U.S. horse slaughterhouses have been approved for USDA inspections, although several have applied.

Mr. Dufour’s horse meat comes from U.S. horses slaughtered in his native Canada, according to sous chef, Aidan O’Neal. But that’s not USDA approved, either.

A Fright At The Museum: Tainted Horse Meat or Foodie Experience?

Besides being illegal, U.S. horse meat presents a significant public health hazard unknown to the media, the public, M. Wells and MoMA, apparently.

The public safety hazard comes in the form of toxic drugs expressly banned by the FDA in horses slaughtered for human consumption but that are widely given to U.S. horses, including those just days from heading to slaughter.

At least one, Phenylbutazone, a common painkiller and anti-inflammatory used to treat everyday soreness in working and nonworking horses, causes cancer in humans (with raw horse meat posing the greatest risk).

For every action there is a reaction. According to the law of karma, if we cause

pain and suffering to other living beings, we must endure pain and suffering in

return, both individually and collectively. We reap what we sow, in this life and

the next, for nature has her own justice. No one can escape the law of karma.
