We owe our lives to trees. Our fantastic forests purify the air, manage nutrients, capture greenhouse gases, cool the planet, house many of the world's plant and animal species, provide jobs to over a billion people and much, much more.

I live in a small town full of tree-lined streets. It soothes the mind and soul when I drive around.

In the UK, drinkers of Yorkshire Tea, and Taylors of Harrogate Coffee can save the tokens and send them in. The producers, Taylors of Harrogate are working to save an area of rainforest the size of Yorkshire (big!)in Peru. This company has already planted a million trees, and annually donates a lot of money.

Noted, thanks Cher. Plant trees, flowers, bushes (native to your area) and plant trees through organizations throughout the world who offer to plant them for you. The world is a better place with them in it (understatement)!

Trees are easily the most useful, beautiful and hardy plant that grows on this planet, and I love them.

I agree totally! I think the us or state govs. or county and city governments should require all land owners vacant or otherwise to plant an estimated number of trees to their properties, incl. vacant lots, idle farm land, etc for sale or investment to plant trees. Also according to the yearly rainfall and other restrictions, but especially abandoned mines and shut down, useless voids.

I also have knowledge that bamboo, while most people find invasive and not too pleasing to the eye, they do break the wind and give off more O2 than any other plants.

I'm lucky where I live, with a park across the street, a park behind my building, the river, a hiking path, and a tree-lined front entrance. Lots of wildlife, which is so pleasing to everyone, as most of us are animal lovers. It's wonderful.

Has anyone noticed the 'heart' that the leaves form in the picture Cher used for this post? Trees are so special. When I was a kid, we had 2 trees at the foot of the hill. I used to lean back against one and put my feet up on the other one. And when the wind blew I'd listen to what they were saying. Our backyard was a forest; full of pine trees, and tons of pine needles and pine cones. I'm still surrounded by trees but I live in a different place so I can't get close up and personal with the trees as much. I still love them, however.

Trees are my comfort when I see them blowing in the wind. Also, love fall, and Indian summer!
