It would take a terrible example of extreme weather to wake people up to the dangers of global warming. That's according to Sir David Attenborough, one of the world's leading naturalists.

It would take a terrible example of extreme weather to wake people up to the dangers of Global Warming. Attenborough, one of the world’s leading naturalists, has also accused U.S. politicians of ducking the Climate Change issue because of the economic cost of tackling it.
What is needed to wake people up?
“Disaster. It’s a terrible thing to say, isn’t it? Even disaster doesn’t do it. There have been disasters in N. America, with hurricanes & floods, yet still people deny & say ‘oh, it has nothing to do with Climate Change’ It visibly has got [something] to do with Climate Change” But some U.S. politicians found it easier to deny the science on Climate Change than take action, because recognizing the science on man-made Climate Change “means a huge section from the Nat.l budget will be spent to deal with it, plenty of politicians will be happy to say ‘don’t worry about that, we’re not going to increase your taxes.’” Despite record-breaking heat in the U.S. & a drought that has devastated crops in the Midwest, the issue of Climate Change failed to get a mention in the country’s presidential debates.

There is nothing "pioneer" like about Obama. His agreement to the Keystone pipeline, his agreement with Shell to drill in the Arctic, and his overall lack of concern about whales, dolphins, and their shrinking environment is just sheer politics.

It seems to me part of the problem is that so many people suffer from the misconception that climate change is a political question rather than a scientific one, and they'll rather go down with the ship than let the liberals win.

And you know when David Attenborough makes a statement in public that it is well reasoned, and as factual and well researched as it is possible to be.

Be honest - Did you ever in your lifetime expect to hear the words "tropical storm" and "New York City" in the same sentence? This is just wrong.

Thank you, Michela. Everybody, except in the USA apparently, knows global warming is no fairy tale.

Can't wait for politicians to take action. They just don't seem to understand the implications of inactions. Effective changes will come about when ordinary people speak out and demand action. Votes do count.

At this very moment the U.S. is experiencing the largest and most dangerous “super storm” ever recorded. The type of storm predicted by climatologists since the 1990′s that would develop due to climate change. Mainly warming of oceans and atmosphere due to green house gases. We have one candidate, the idiot, who says “I like coal”. And the other, afraid to mention climate change due to the reactions of undecided voters.
We even have an organization funded by a super PAC called “Americans for prosperity” that goes around and puts on seminars trying to debunk climate change as a political scare tactic of the democrats. They parade layman as men of science.
They won’t believe in climate change until their children die from air that they cannot breathe, or drown in an ocean that used to be 10 miles away.

In latest series "Frozen Planet", Sir David Attenborough has warned that the speed of change in the North and South Poles has devastating implications far beyond the Polar regions. Also, he support The Optimum Population Trust (OPT), a group seeking to cut the growth in human population. They believe that Earth cannot be able to support more than half its present numbers before the end of the century.
We don't have a lot of time, but to wake up politicians is not easy.

Thank you Cher and Michela!
