Recycling can be confusing. Did you know even though something has the "recycle" symbol on it, it might not be recyclable? Or that rinsing bottles and containers before recycling helps ensure they get a second life?

Recycling is so easy yet I am always amazed how many people don't know how to recycle properly. And worse how many people don't bother to recycle at all even when recycling is available. In the US we throw away 60 million plastic water bottles every day. Half of those are just for water. Of those 60 million only 10 million are recycled.

I think people should be encouraged to plant trees or bamboo where ever they can. I do recycle all and wash out cans and bottles so they don't smell so badly. Never buy water for drinking.

Our municipal government sends out calendars each year showing when collections are and what is collected(ie what numbers in the triangle should be recycled) . We have 6 bulk pickups also indicated on the calendar as well as the zones showing the streets where the different get the different pickup. Garbage along with garden waste is collected every other week and recycling is collect weekly. Over the last 20 years our dump has had its life extended by a quarter of a century. There is NO excuse for not recycling.

In regard to planting bamboo, here are some reasons it might not be a good idea:

More than recycling I try not to waste, I do not buy bottled water for example, never ever.

I recycle almost anything I can get my hands on and look for ways to make other or use these items instead of purchasing new things. For instance, the small oz. flask like bottles from alcohol make great spice bottles, I stand mine in a drawer on their side and can fit almost 50 in the drawer. Labeling them down the side makes it easy to see what the bottle contains. I also use them for home made bath salts and herbal soaks as gifts.

"I recycle almost anything I can get my hands on and look for ways to make other or use these items instead of purchasing new things." I use tea tins for spices, I buy almost everything from the recyclingshop, (exept my underwear). You can cut a plastic bottle in half and use the upper part as a funnel. There are so many ways to recycle !!

I do my best, well, almost my best.
Much to my dismay, at times, I have forgotten to take my cloth bags to the supermarket.
Now, I keep them in my, no excse.
