It's too late to apologise to the octopus but not too late to prosecute. Octopuses are highly intelligent animals who deserve respect. All life deserves respect!

"We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living beings, humanity will not find peace."

What a shame that this is posted in Care.2 because it's completely false! The octopus was not female or guarding eggs, and the diver had a LEGAL license. Note, people...........divers can get a LEGAL one-day permit to hunt and kill a Giant Pacific Octopus. I live here...........they're not endangered, NOT rare, and are seen everywhere. Where do you think they get octopus MEAT from?

"Witness" Bob Bailey is full of crap. This was all over the news on ALL 3 major TV affiliates here........KOMO, KING and KIRO. The diver did everything "by the book" and has the support of the diving community. He HAS apologized and said he had no idea that what he did would upset others, and will back legislation to make the cove where he caught this octopus a marine sanctuary.

Diane L. (110)
Sunday November 11, 2012, 8:40 pm
Shelly, you say you "live here", but so do I. Apparently you don't watch the same TV stations? The octopus was quite dead when put in the back of the truck. He also didn't kill it for the "thrill" and they are not proposing making hunting the octopus illegal everywhere, just Cove 2.

Sorry, folks, but you've all BEEN HAD, in that the story ..........AS STATED in the article linked to, is not true or factual except that the name of the young man is factual, he was not part of an organized "group", was diving and acting alone and yes, has apologized for upsetting anyone, but the diving community supports him.
