The Fort Worth City Council is considering a Trap-Neuter-Return ordinance that will affect resident caregivers' right to care for feral cats by imposing fines and penalties and interfering with caregivers' privacy

Signed, TU. When the local animal warden came to see if we had any unregistered pets she said that you had to register (fee required) any feral cats you feed and also pay for their rabies shots (and have proof of it).All this seems to be over regulation. TU Cher

S & N! And hopefully these neighbors, should this law pass consider taking these feral cats in and give them a forever home...I did just that for thousands of feral cats over my 40+ years of rescue and love, patience and rehabilitation will have them all lap cats in no time! If I can do it then each and every one of these neighbors can do it as well....NO more excuses TNR is fantastic BUT NOT ENOUGH as you are always leaving them subjected to the dangers of disease, hit by cars, and evil people worst of all! Like NIKE...JUST DO IT!

I think there does need to be some kind of oversight, so that people aren't just caring for a bunch of strays that aren't altered and are defecating in the neighbors' garden- but Alley Cat Allies should have some input, so that the feral caretakers will follow the rules and not just abandon their charges over fear of penalties....

I don't think those who voluntarily care for these cats should have to pay to do so. If there was some help to neuter them, and ensure they are not being abused...then fine. But to discourage people from helping them by charging them to do so seems unfair when these people are trying to do something worthwhile for these needy cats.

Signed. I do have mixed feelings about this, both sides appear to believe that they are doing what is best for the cats, but there appears to be a breakdown in communication, both sides should sit down and talk this through and come up with an answer that is best for the cats, not the humans. Thanks Cher

A much as I can I take care of feral cats living near my house, also try to help finding new homes for them, so I think that ordinance is just stupid. Maybe instead of this government could do something to prevent the uncontrolled breeding of animals through sterilization and adoption for example?

Noted and signed - these people clearly have nothing better to do with their lives - I feed feral cats and yes, I do try and catch them to have them sterilised. But I AM PAYING FOR THEIR FOOD! And if I choose to feed them them it is out of love and compassion for them and I dare anyone to come to my house to tell me I must pay a fee and register them. Who is to blame for them being feral - humans!!!

would have liked to be able to read the actual text of the ordinance...as a long-time feral tender, i don't see registration as necessarily a bad thing - having bona fide legal status would offer some protection from town and private resistence to care efforts, and encourage vets, vendors, and private citizens to contribute much-needed supplies and services, particularly if it conferred a blanket nonprofit status to registered cat colonies, not all of whom are equipped or inclined to obtain their own. i get the sense that the idea is sound, but the wording needs work.

In Quebec it is strictly forbiden to feed ANY starving creature. I got fine 520$ for feeding birds in winter.
Needless to say I still feed birds, cats, squirels, skunks and any creature that needs help. I'm just more careful when I do it.
DO ALL YOU CAN TO STOP THESE LAWS FROM BEING APPLIED OR YOU'LL END UP LIKE US.
