Subsequent email goes to the Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon in Berlin:

Dear Ambassador, with great concern I have learned that in the southwest of Cameroon created a 70,000 hectare palm oil plantation is. If SGSOC, a local subsidiary of the U.S. company Herakles Farms, implement this plan may actually, it would have disastrous consequences for biodiversity and the local population. Nevertheless issued in mid-November 2012, the Ministry of Forestry of Cameroon's permission, the first 2,500 hectares of forest in Talangaye for oil palm trees cut down with immediate effect! Herakles Farms claims that the vast majority of the concession would affect degraded forest and secondary forest - but in reality on the targeted area is mostly dense tropical rainforest with many large trees without felling here previously had taken place. Ironically, this area is home to an extraordinary diversity of species, many in the high-risk and even endangered species live - so here is, for example, one of the last refuges of the critically endangered Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzees and forest elephants. It is also home of thousands of people in small villages that operate here largely environmentally friendly a small farm without destroying the forests. Huge oil palm plantations would 'nullify all this. All reasonable arguments against this project: A last year conducted environmental impact study ignores important biological, ecological and social components - yet it was accepted by the Government of Cameroon. The attempt of Herakles Farms / SGSOC to let the planned plantation at Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) zeritifizieren failed miserably! Concerns and resistance from the local population against the project were ignored, instead there was the part SGSOC deliberate misinformation and intimidation. Cameroon has signed the UN Declaration on Indigenous Rights, Cameroon has adopted with its neighbor Nigeria an action plan for the survival of Nigeria chimpanzees - Cameroon is considered a showcase country for forest preservation and Africa. All this would undermine the government of Cameroon with this industrial-scale monoculture oil palm plantation. Therefore I ask you politely to forward this letter to your President Paul Biya - with the polite request

Cameroon also shelters the HIGHLY endangered DRILL...these animals are so rare that it was only recently that photos were taken of them in the wild.

When loggers go through an area, hunters with automatic weapons are close behind. Primates are considered "trendy" as BUSH MEAT.

It sickens me down to my very soul!

If you've an interest....Peter & Liza Gadsby, two young Americans, have created a very successful reserve in Nigeria/Cameroon area, trying to save DRILLS.

They're good people.
