I can vouch for the fact that it's impossible to examine a purring cat! Just TRY listening to it's heart when it's purring!
But a happy purr - that's magical.

I find my cats purr when they are comfortable near me, or want to sleep along side me. I always throught it was a Mommy thing.....

I heard that they used to put cats in with sick horses - their purring helped them heal.

My kitties purr to thank me for giving them food or when I'm watching tv they come sit next to me and start rubbing their heads on my legs, arms or my head and purring at the same time, I think it means I love you.

Thanks! When our cat is upset or not getting what she wants, she vocalizes in a most nagging manner. I much prefer the purrrrrr.

Smokey's purr was delicious. All our cats purr differently. I've tried purring back to them and they seem to enjoy it a lot.

My vet said there was 2 things he was determined to find out when he first started vet school. I forgot what the first one was, which he did find a reason for, but the second thing he was determined to find out was how a cat purred. After 20 years in the business, he is still doing studies on it.
