The shooting of two mountain lion cubs has prompted an outcry from wildlife advocates and reignited a debate about balancing public safety with the welfare of the region's apex predator.

Tragic! Unacceptable!
Thousands of us in CA have dealt with CA Dept. of Fish and Game numerous times and they have their heads up their rears! Us owners/lovers have been trying for years to get them legalized in CA. Two states out of 50 have ferrets as illegal wildlife. They have been domesticated for over 2,000 years! Oh how I can go on and on. We have been to so many board meetings, did everything DFG asked of us, thousands of dollars spent, petitions signed, begged, and now we have to find a legislator. They are legal in 48 states! Ah!
This makes me sick about these lion cubs. No excuses! An ex board member had hunted down a mountain lion in another state while still employed at DFG parading around with it on his shoulder. People like here on Care2 helped that guy lose his job. So sorry, babbling...

Haven't we learned by now NOT to call the sheriffs or Fish & Game? Especially for these young cubs that were no threat. That's what they've trained the public to do, considering their response. They should have called Wildlife Rescue instead as they were equipped to deal with these situations.

Sheesh, how long have we been dealing with this situation in California...now they are saying...we should have a better plan in place for dealing with this...How about the last 20 or 30 times this has happened? They've had more than enough time...If we can put a man on the moon...
