Levi's: We Want Toxin-Free Jeans ! PLEASE SIGN ! !

Environment  (tags: environment, habitat, nature, protection, pollution, toxins )

When Greenpeace tested Levi's clothing, we found hazardous chemicals in them - toxins that are regulated in Canada, but are being regularly dumped into the Chinese and Mexican waterways where Levi's clothes are made.

Some 450 million pairs of jeans are sold in the United States each year -- 1.5 pairs for every man, woman, and child. The average woman has eight pairs in her closet. Chances are that to make those jeans, cotton crops were drenched in pesticides; fibers were stained with toxic dyes; and the resulting fabric was sandblasted, chemically softened, and ripped and scrunched to create the wrinkles and tears that make new jeans look perfectly broken in.
Countries that usually offer the best the manufacture conditions for the industries are Turkey China India that is where they become toxic Jeans.
The problem is not only of Levi's .......

It's infuriating that the United States so far doesn't require the same protections against toxic chemicals in clothing that Canada and other countries have! Rules on corporations being responsible only to shareholder profits, and not to human and environmental health and safety must be re-written. Cher, thanks for posting the link to this important petition!

Not only is Levi's terribly overpriced for what it is, it is even not safe... Yet another reminder to always beware...

To avoid entering your phone number on petitions where it's required, try entering 0123456789 or a variation. A nonprofit group with a recent petition on Care2 suggested using any 10 numbers for that.
