Thank you, Cher, but I sincerely hope that this isn't responsible for a bunch of misguided people running out to buy Golden Retreiver puppies for their kids for Christmas. I SO miss my beloved GR, who passed away from cancer last January but I also know how seeing adorable GR puppies can pull on the heart strings.

Thanks for the GREEN STAR, John. You are correct. I had a beautiful, beloved Golden for 14 years. He was well-bred and the most happy, carefree companion ever! My son used to tease me about why I never named him American Express because I never left home without him. I lost him last Jan. 2nd to cancer. Goldens are the #1 dog in America as far as being "happy, family dogs" and the least likely to bark. Labs are #1 in popularity. They are similar, yet each has their distinct characteristics. Goldens are more likely to have skin sensitivities and allergies and they DO carry a risk for genetic defects, including a higher likelihood to have specific partner had bone cancer in the shoulder. It is as common in Goldens as HD is in GSD's. They are also prolific "shedders" and do so all year round, so many buy that little yellow furball and then get tired of vacuuming up all that dead hair that accumulates EVERYWHERE after the puppy coat is replaced by the adult coat...........which requires a LOT of grooming, BTW.

I have 3 senior goldens. They are wonderful but shed lots of fur.I had 2 other goldens for 16 years.I still miss them dreadfully even though they have been dead for 3 years
