Most people who release Chinese sky lanterns have no idea of the harmful and even deadly consequences they can have for animals.

signed, but puzzled - chinese lanterns in the UK must be different from those i am familiar with, as there is no way to "release" these - you just hang them up, then take them down when you are done (or they get wet or dusty). there's no way to "fly" them or have them leave your house/yard under their own steam.

Like "Shadow Manypaths", I'm confused and I won't sign something as vague as this, or what from that I've read,is very misleading. Chinese lanterns that I've seen are not "released" anywhere. It we're going to BAN stuff that can harm animals, why not start with lead shot, but WAIT, we've tried that and been opposed by the NRA. LEAD shot kills more wildlife unintentionally than anything else.

If we're going to ban anything that floats/flies thru the air and could entrap an animal, what about balloons? How can they all be banned? Answer............they can't.

Noted and signed. Thanks Cher. We should also ban the release of balloons at any event; games, funerals, weddings, birthday parties, etc, as they also have such an adverse effect on our environment and animals.

On the annual farolito walk a German creates these lanterns, but he uses tiny birthday candles set upon very thin & fragile balsa wood crossed into an "x". I am surprise at the materials used in this article. Metal? Really?

Of course, anyone who is truly against suffering of our relatives on Earth will never participate in the destruction of the freedoms and rights of, the killing of the eating of any being. Untold trillions of lives are destroyed by this act.

It can also cause case of fire. So one should leave them carefully.
So according to my opinion, usage of hanging paper lanterns will be better than the usage of sky lanterns.
