This very common complaint has a completely natural cause: cats are nocturnal, which means they are more active during nighttime hours than during the day. Living peacefully with them entails shifting their schedule slightly and managing their environment so that you, their owners, can sleep. The following tips can help:

My cat doesn't wake me up at night. I don't have a cat.

Why does my neighbor's cat wake me up at night?

Cats wake you up at night because they are cats and cats get to do whatever they please!!
No, seriously, this is a very good article with a lot of useful information.

Seriously, is there really any way to stop a cat from doing what he wants to do?

My only issue is on the weekends. The boys are used to eating early when I have to go to work; if they are not fed by 6am, I get a gentle hit on the nose, telling me Hello; where's the food?" I have come to realize I am nothing but a giant can opener.

mine wants love and attention, she usually sleeps at night till around 4-5 am but doesn't bug me till about 8-10 am lol, she has surprisingly accurate timing for a cat

Think the number 1 reason should be "cats are jerks"

I consider us lucky. Our 6 have sleeping spots they go to when we go to bed. They are used to "quiet time" at night. Although we sometimes hear 'sock feet' on the floor or feel a furry body gently jump on the bed it isn't disturbing because they quickly settle down. They get a small 'nighty-beddy' snack just before bed.

Our two boy cats are like sentinels they wait outside my bedroom door for me to get up and serve them !
Our two black girl kitties are content to lay in bed with me , The boys are very different and needy .

I don't think they do this to wake me up, but the two old males argue with each other while I'm trying to sleep. Unfortunately, one or the other of them is usually on top of me when they do this. They don't act this way during the day because they're catching up on their sleep.

While mine wakes me when she craves attention at oh-dark-thrity, I don't mind and am happy to have her.

I had to laugh at the photo. I have seen the youngest member of my herd in that exact position prior to pouncing on one of the older ones. Although it makes me giggle inside, i always know soon there will be an altercation. I believe that he has learned to taunt the other cats to gain my attention. So now i spend about 15min 2X daily playing with all of them, they chase a old scarf that i drag on the floor. This seem to be helping. But, every once in a while, i find him perched above our heads, in the dark, looking for the moment to strike. Did you ever see that commercial where the black panther is perched over the couples head, licking his chops? That's what he looks like! And it doesn't help that he is black too. He warms my heart.

I've never had a cat that woke me up at night. A friend of mine has one that will wake her every morning at 5:30 am for a treat. She keeps a package of treats next to the bed, and gives the cat a few which will tied her over until breakfast.

Interesting article. My cat is calm and it just bothers me when hungry in the morning.
