There is insufficient information here to sign the petition. Had the elk been injured, perhaps crippled by a vehicle, or injured by stray dogs necessitating that it be put down? As for the meat, would you rather it was left to waste? I would much prefer to see it saved for food than wasted.

As for the actions of on duty officers' the discharge report would normally be a requirement. The department however has no requirement to disclose any internal actions (that may have been taken, or may be taken) to the public. If the entire incident was reported to both the Chief of police and the Sheriff, expect action to be taken. Do not expect to be notified of what that action might be.

I've had to put down several road injured deer over the years. Usually they were not fit for human consumption so they were just dragged off of the road and no one available to recover those that were. Policy on written reports or dispatch notification varied with administration.

Sorry Kevin- there IS sufficent evidence in the links provided

The state closely regulates the disposal of meat and body parts from animals that are killed outside of the regular hunting season, even in car accidents, in part to avoid a gray market in meat and trophies of questionable origin.

For example, people need permits to take home meat from roadkill, and people cannot harvest antlers as trophies from roadkill.

The police officers had NO permit- they didnt even report it. The only reason anyone knows is because they were caught on camera.

I would not want the meat to go to waste, I want the officers to pay for killing the town pet. Signed, thanks.

Please read the source of the story (which is included on the petition). They need a permit- even for roadkill.

It's not about "meat going to waste." Its about them shooting the elk- filing NOT report to the Police Department or theColorado Parks and Wildlife- and NOT having a permit, which they need- even for roadkill.

It is poaching, plain and simple.
