When the turkeys, or poults as baby turkeys are called, arrived from the hatchery, I noticed that one of them was very weak and having a hard time. So I took the little one out of the box, and gave him medication. The next three or four nights, the young

That's an amazing story Cher that I am very glad you posted. PBS also ran a beautiful edition of Nature just before Thanksgiving called "My Life as a Turkey" about a man that raised wild turkeys that had imprinted on him as their mother and it also showed just how intelligent they are and how complex their relationships were. The show is still available for viewing online today:

What a lovely story! Peeper was a shinig example of how all animnals, not just turkeys have feelings & emotions just like we do. So sad that he passed, but what a specail relationship this woman formed with this turkey. Thanks for sharing Cher. And thank you Rock for the added link, will go & check it out.

Although this was a story unlike I have ever read (having a turkey as a house pet), there is a lesson to be learned. The turkey died because it swallowed items from inside the house. Naturally wild animals are meant to live in the wild.

Noted. First, I want to say to Allan, that Peeper swallowed something from outside the house hence the reason why she wished somewhat that he had been a totally inside bird. Next, I want to say what a beautiful though bittersweet story. It just goes to show that animals are capable of so much more than most people give them credit for. Thanks so much, Cher.

Awww, watery eyes, what a great story. All animals need to feel they are loved or at least cared about.
Thanks Cher!

What a truly wonderful story that was. You never know where you'll find love or with who. In this world we live in today, we must take it when given to us. Peeper loved his Mom and she certainly loved him, just as any adoptive mother does, like he was her own. Just makes me sad that he couldn't live out his life and show her all that a Turkey can do if given the chance! BEAUTIFUL STORY!

What a sad yet wonderful story. I had no idea that turkeys could be so loving. I am glad Peeper had a chance at a great life no matter the length.

Ok,
Not fair I'm sitting here crying like a baby and I have the flu too....UGH.
What an icdredible heartwarming story.
My mother, when she was alive was such an animal lover.
She tried to save ababy mouse we'd found in our garage,a baby bird another time.
And this is such a vivid memory for me:she was feeding a runt in a litter of puppies our dog had,we came home from church and it had died in her hands, she couldn't stop crying.
God bless people who KNOW animals are more than just animals.
They are our friends, companions and in many cases life savers.

Thank you for Peeper's wonderful story. Even animals like turkeys are able to understand and love ... more than a lot of men.
