In culture, attitudes change by example and leadership. The problem lies not with the people or they would not have rallied to assist these cats in need. The problem lies within the leadership not advancing programs that would outlaw the collecting, slaughter and consumption of cats or dogs. As animal welfare activists this is where our efforts need to go - with petitions and letters from all of us, toward pressuring the government to institute laws that offer protection for the animals and not for those who profit from the slaughter business.

I'm so glad these cats escaped. It is refreshing to know that there are animal rescue activists there. I agree, Kit, petitions need to be circulated and sent to China, if only they would take heed and abide by them. They are so barbaric. Thanks, Cher, for all you do.

As an animal lover and avid cat lover i cannot imagine anyone eating our beautifull innocent cat companions.Horrifying. I have 11 cats and they are to me my friends who are very much loved and appreciated. i wish these cultures could see cats and dogs as fabulous friends and not meat. I hope with more attention on this horrible industry,it can eventually subside into oblivion. One can hope. Thanks for saving these these ones.

Very lucky for these cats. Hope they weren't hurt and can live good lives. The question is what kind of living conditions will these cats be confide too? Will they spay and neuter these cats so there will not be anymore? Perhaps devine intervention happened here.

While this is a nice story but the real problem is what will happen to these animals now? It's not like it is in the US or western Europe. People in asia don't normally keep dogs and cats as house pets. Where will these animals go? They don't have a shelter system and have very few vets. Rescuing these animals is the first step in a journey that really doesn't have a happy ending.

I hope that the truck driver and others associated with this barbaric killing of cats and dogs for food and fur was killed and died slowly and in agony.I also hope that they hacked these uncivilised scum human filthbags to death and then ate them.
I loathe/detest uncivilised animal abusing Asia.
What will happen to these poor 1000 cats. The chance of them being adopted out in Asia to a good home is slim

The cats were saved only because of an accident. And the rescuers said, “While we don’t want to give a cent to the cruel evil, there was no other way for them to save the poor cats...” So these animals were the lucky .1%. My God. What a hellish place.

Thank God that these cats were rescued from a lucky break! But what about all the poor animals who aren't. How can people be so cruel as to not think about what these poor animals experience! At least there are people now in China who are committed to rescuing cats and dogs from the horrific meat trade. I pray that every one of them will be rescued!

Lucky cats! First time I am going to say that I am glad to hear about a car wreck!

And - Chinese animal activists are gaining ground in the fight against this practice. They’ve mobilized increasing numbers of volunteers to rescue cats destined for slaughter, and even the cops are starting to help save cats from the meat market.

AHHHH, I LOVE HEARING A STORY ABOUT AN ANIMAL, OR ANIMALS, THAT
ESCAPED FROM A HIDEOUSLY CRUEL & MERCIFULLY, SHORT FUTURE !!!

I AM NOT ONE TO TELL PEOPLE OF DIFRENT COUNTRIES & TRADITIONS,
WHAT THEY SHOULD & SHOULD NOT EAT, :
OUR WESTERN SOCIETIES ARE NOT INNOCENT, WHEN WE EAT COWS
THAT INDIAN PEOPLE HOLD SACRED, :
HERE IN AUSSIE, SUM EAT KANGAROOS, EMUS & WOMBATS !!!

NOW THAT IS SICK, IN MY OPINION, AS THESE ANIMALS ARE IN OUR
COAT OF ARMS & ON OUR PAPER DOLLARS, SO AT ONE TIME WE HAD
A WHOLE LOT MORE RESPECT 4 THEM, THAN WE DO NOW !!!!!

WHAT I DO OBJECT TO, IS THE WAY, THAT * FOOD * ANIMALS ARE
TORTURED TO DEATH, B/C THE ASIANS BELIEVE IT MAKES THE MEAT
MORE TENDER !!!!! AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH !!! GGGGGRRRRR !!!

WHAT PART OF
*** PAIN CAUSES THE BRAIN, TO RELEASE "ENDORPHINS",
LIKE "ADRENALIN, (FROM THE GLAND NEAR THE KIDNEYS) TO HELP
THE BODY DEAL WITH WHAT'S HAPPENING ***
DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND ??? !!!!!
THIS TOUGHENS UP ANY KIND OF MEAT, : " IT D O E S N O T, MAKE
IT MORE TENDER !!!!!

"" KYE "", REALLY LOVED UR COMMENT, TOOO EARLY 4 A GREEN STAR !

I'M GLAD TO HEAR THE SMALL GROUP OF ANIMAL LOVERS/ACTIVISTS,
IN CHINA, ARE SLOWLY GAINING GROUND & I TRY TO HELP THEM BY
SIGNING EVRY PETITION I SEE, CONCERNING THIS DISGUSTING PRACTICE !!!

IF THERE WERE LESS PUPPEHS & KITTEHS BEING BORN INTO THE LIFE,
OF HOPELESS, HOMELESSNESS, THE WHOLE SLAUGHTER 4 FOOD ISSUE,
WOULD BECOME TOOO EXPENSIVE TO CONTINUE DOING, : THE CHINESE
GOVT, NEED ONLY PASS A LAW THAT ENFORCES STERILIZATION, ON STRAY
& PET ALIKE, : NO BREEDING ALLOWED, WITHOUT EXPENSIVE, HARD TO GET REGISTRATIONS !!!
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT, 4 BREACHES OF THAT LAW, IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO TO,
& IT WILL B A PIECE OF CAKE TO DO IN CHINA, : THEY ALREADY EXECUTE
THEIR OWN CIVILIANS, 4 MUCH LESS !!!

SORI, 4 THE *WAFFLE ON*, SOMETIMES, I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO STOP !!!

There needs to be a camgaign that educates people who eat cat & dog that it is not safe to consume the meat....maybe then these poor animals wil not end up on a plate
