If President Obama is truly committed to fighting climate change, it won't work to "develop" coral reefs and other marine environments, especially those with nearly a thousand threatened species! Signed and noted, thanks, Cher!

do the japanese have any say in this? unless the us already has this land, don't they need permission from japan to change the location of any bases? it sounds like americans and japanese need to come forward and request this area be spared from human damage.

I read the news and without thinking I signed the petition, got on Twitter and Google+. Thanks for sharing the news. Coral reefs are the basis of life in the seas. I think we do well to ask you to protect them beyond words give rulers. One added to another makes a difference.

We do not need another military base especially on top of a coral reef. It is ecologically unsound. Save our Dugongs.

I signed the petition. The big seas and coral reefs, life support almost all species, but of all. However we care to prune. It all ends in the sea, and then in the great oceans. The trash, landfills, nuclear experiments, all helping to kill the life which is the life behind all the rest. If need be given a strong battle to save where it all begins, coral reefs, so much life there. And we will take this battle to raise awareness of the importance of its preservation. Says a friend who is a diver oceanographer (winner of major awards for his work) and defends life shark and dolphins: stepper progresses faster. So be it.

I Signed the petition. Coral reef is most important factor in ocean ecosystem. You can find my infographics in this site: Manning agency in Manila . It will give you more information about coral reef and why should we preserve and take care of it.
