As a past spokesperson for SHAC USA (Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty), I marched beside activists with common purpose: To close Huntingdon Life Sciences -- one of the world's largest contract research labs. HLS annually kills some 180,000 animals to test

SHAC USA formed in 2001 to shut down HLS. They targeted HLS customers, suppliers and financiers in an unrelenting campaign of letters, emails, faxes and unprecedented national/local protests. In 2006, SHAC USA leaders were imprisoned for the crime of free speech under the Animal Enterprise Protection Act — an obscure law to protect animal industry profits. Nothing within the animal rights movement has equaled the unity, clarity and presence of SHAC USA.

Doesn't that just say it all? They were put in jail for free speech because it was inconvenient to the corporations to have protesters.

As a Jewish family we equate animal suffering with human suffering. Our people were tortured in evil laboratories too and then exterminated. The suffering of one is the same as the suffering of another. The sadistic torture must stop and these places must be closed permanently. Don't even get me started on the fur trade and the slaughterhouse industry. I am ashamed to be human.

Alone we can do almost nothing.

United we can prevent so much suffering!

Thank you.

Please let this movement grow and grow. I was witness to such atrocities over 40 years ago when I unwittingly took a secretarial job at a research facility. I was young and naive. I had no idea. It changed my life and my views on animal welfare and experimentation. I lost my ability to eat meat. I had to leave. I now find it difficult to witness footage as shown here as it brings back memories, but we must watch and remain aware of the brutality because it keeps us motivated to stand up and challenge this gruesome and in many instances unnecessary 'research'. We have been protesting these abuses all these years. It is the same kind of madness that occured in the Nazi concentration camps. People involved fragment and lose any sense of proportion or humanity. The fight must continue.
