Very glad to sign this petition! Think it's a great idea. People who are neglecting or abusing their animals and have them taken away from them and have to stay at a shelter because of the owner's abuse or neglect of their pets, should have to pay reparations or what it costs the shelter to now take care of this
animal that they should have been taking care of and not abusing in the first place! Hopefully, this will catch on to many more shelters in other states because I think that you would see less abuse because people (if they were held financially accountable for their behavior) might think more about getting an animal rather than just getting one on an impulse and hopefully, it will help weed out some potentially abusive and neglectful owners if they realize
that they may have to pay hundreds or even thousands to a shelter to take care of their animal! "The law will also act as a powerful deterrent to abusers if they know that an act of cruelty or neglect could cost them thousands of dollars rather than a fine and the loss of the pet. This landmark bill will significantly reduce the financial burden on non-profit shelters and likely save the lives of many more dogs and cats!"
