Some Asian cultures use a special guillotine to amputate bear paws, sometimes while the bear is still alive. The animal is often first beaten- as there is a belief that the adreneline rushing through the body makes the meat more tender.

This is so unbelievably cruel that I am at a loss for words. I respect different cultures and beliefs but when it involves animal torture and horrendous slaughter, I have to draw the line. There are some customs that simply need to be forgotten and no longer practiced and this is definitely one of them.

The Chinese would beat their own grandmothers senseless and chop their hands off and make soup out of them if they thought it held medicinal power. These horrific monsters are so primitive and backward it renders one unconscious. And to think the U.S., Canada and other nations around the world countenance these kinds of atrocities by doing business with these so-called "people." Where in God's name is the JUSTICE?

Signed with sadness for the murdered bears, and hope for saving others. I wonder if there are animal protection groups dealing with this atrocity, the way Animals Asia is working to shut down bear bile farms, and other activists in China save dogs and cats from restaurants.

these people are disgusting and I for one think they should be wiped from the earth...they kill thousands of animals for so called medicines that is totally unnecessary and as a holistic practitioner I can tell you that it is totally unnecessary. They have no respect for rights of any kind for anyone human or animals and are a acourge to the planet. I once had a guy who hunted bring me the paws of a baby bear ...my son and I said prayers adn sis a ceremony honoring the bear and buried them..I threw him out of my office after telling him off. NO RESPECT ...he adn some of his yahoo friends went to Canada and hunted drunk of course and decided that he could not come home without a bear so he killed a baby......(you can so all that there)

TU Cher. My wife has made "bear paw" cookies in the past, but they were only called that because of the shape. Using the real paws is gross...sickening.
