The federal Environment Minister, Peter Kent, is reportedly vocalizing his support for shale-gas exploration in New Brunswick, Canada for its significant economic benefits. That said, Kent also admits that having a "drill rig in one's backyard

Peter Kent is a laughing-stock. He's supposed to be the ENVIRONMENT MINISTER. That presumably means he's SUPPOSED to be looking out for the environment, not beating a drum for more fossil fuel extraction.

The Harper Regime sinks lower and lower with each passing day. :-(

Peter Kent represents Thornhill, home of His Lowliness, Big Brother Bob Rae, and one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods in Canada. If the rest of us are counting sheep to put us to sleep, I bet they count bags of money. Profit will rule over the environment. Kent should go back to his old job he was mediocre at...reporting the news.

Don't forget, Michael, Harper has to bow and scrape to his Chinese overlords, so cut the guy some slack. : )

I live in New Brunswick and this isn't our only problem, the Premier is also pushing for an oil pipeline from the Alberta oilsands to Saint John if the Northern Gateway falls through. I guess they figure that our waterways, air and parks aren't as important as those in BC, and neither are the critically endangered Northern Right Whales who will be in the path of all the extra tankers that will be passing through the Bay of Fundy. I will never vote Conservative again, they are destroying my country.

Last election, I voted Green. Non of the mainline parties are going to do much of anything. It will take a long time before people get up the courage to make major changes in our politics, as change can be scarey. I cringe at the thought of Trudeau's kid coming to power. That will be a disaster.

Noted. It seems our last big protests on this continent were against the finance regime; thanks to Occupy, we did have some impact and are continuing along this line with many grassroots organizations, like National Nurses, as well as many small branches of Occupy continuing.
Today we have 350.org, Sierra Club, FOE, and many other environmental groups protesting in DC. Each of those groups had a livestream of the protest. Idle No More, which started in Canada, now has added parts of the U.S. I'm hoping this summer, maybe, there will be a weekend of massive protests on the North American continent....possibly worldwide....to present scientific facts to the world regarding climate change and the dangers of fracking & drilling. We must not let up.

Since Harper is our prime minister, the Conservative party of Canada does nothing to protect our environment, nor their own people. He is just a plain dictator!

I just recently read about this proposed pipeline heading to New Brunswick. In other words, if the line broke, it would pollute most of Canada. These are dangerous men and don't care at all about the common man. They have Canadian dollars for their eyes.

Sad. The government always looks at issues as money makers, not about the safety of the people or the environment. Thanks Cher

Its always profits over people. If only people were considered worth more than the money, as they should be.

What can I expect from a province who saw no harm in testing out Agent Orange? The myopic and just wanton stupidity at times hits me full in the face. It's a good thing I can take a punch.

Unfortunately I have heard of this new pipeline to New Brunswick from Alberta....all across the country?? Are they nuts??? Environmental Disasters just waiting to happen.I presume that is if the Enbridge pipeline doesn't go through the Great Bear Rain forest in B.C.....either way these tankers are going to be in rough waters.
