"Results from animal tests are not transferable between species and therefore cannot guarantee product safety for humans... In reality these tests do not provide protection for consumers from unsafe products, but rather are used to protect corporations from legal liability."
Dr. Herbert Gundersheimer

Message sent on this one.

After sending an e-mail on March 9th to:

"Animal Research at University of Wisconsin-Madison,"

I got this reply on March 13 - Re: Public concern about oversight of research protocols
----If anyone wants the original letter to send back to them, let me know. We need to obviously bombard them with e-mails, letters whatever!

to me
Maternal Deprivation Study E-Mail Response

Thank you for contacting us and expressing your concern about animal-based research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We take your views seriously, as we do our responsibility to care for the animals in our charge and treat them with respect.

Know that the information now being disseminated about research at our university is far from an accurate representation of the work to be conducted. The primary aim of the research is achieving an understanding of how adversity early in life can influence the brain, knowledge that can be the basis for new interventions to aid people with a range of common conditions, including anxiety disorder, depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. UW research has helped point to the importance of early childhood interventions to save children from developing anxiety, depression and the drug and alcohol abuse that can arise from such conditions. Anxiety and depression can be crippling, and this important research provides a real chance to better understand and alleviate human suffering, which is the ultimate goal of the study.

A detailed description of the research and its rationale can be found here:

A general description of animal research at the UW-Madison can be found at:

An interesting discussion of this research project between a UW Ethicist and a Research Critic can be found at the following url:

We remain committed to the humane conduct of important biomedical research. We appreciate your willingness to consider all sides of the story before judging our work in light of rhetoric clearly intended to mislead and inflame emotions on the sensitive issue of animal-based research.

noted and signed, in hopes that this petition will help to bring an end to animal testing just for beautification purposes of humans. Thank you for the list Kit, of all that do not commit to this cruelty. I am surprised though, that Avon is on the list?
Thank you Cher for the opportunity to make a difference with this petition.

I can't bear to see that monkey's picture, it breaks my heart. Noted, signed, twittered and google shared. This is such a horrific thing to do to animals. Painting your face is hardly as important as the life of any animal. Just sayin.

Why don't they use humans testing cosmetics? And even if the cosmetics have been tested on animals this is not a guarantee for the safety for humans.
