Why is one restaurant chain being singled out and picked on because cows are dehorned? Seems that if it was such a cruel practice, then anyone and everyone who consumes ANY dairy product should be targeted. If the methods used (as stated in the article) were the "norm", I'd be one of the first to sign, but I've watched it (in videos) and they are not done as stated. If anyone wants to know how it is usually done, check it out for yourself.

I wasn't aware of this until I saw it being done on an episode of "The Incredible Dr. Pol" on Animal Planet. The procedure was clearly shown and while not "pretty", it also was not mutilation, nor was there "burning" involved. It's done when the cows are quite young, anesthesia is used and it is necessary to prevent injury to both workers that handle the cows and the cows themselves, as dairy cows are not just turned out in large herds to graze and left unhandled until the day they go to auction. They must be handled twice a day and they quickly learn to use their heads to BUTT anything around when they want to get their own way. Even without horns, that can cause serious injury.
