Any lawn & garden center has *safe* pesticides available. As the article states, some are poisons so you do want to wash your veggies thoroughly.

Spray made with habanero peppers and water works well for all kinds of chewing critters. They take one bite and move on to something else. This has worked well on several different vegetable plants as well as most of my ornamentals. Doesn't do any lasting damage, but definately warns them away.

very interesting post, thanks Cher...did not know about the diatomaceous earth?? I plant marigolds all around the vegetable / herb garden and it also seems to keep out a lot of leaf eaters...
